Drone Flyover of the Traders Village Sunflower Field Maze Just 3 Days Before Opening Weekend

The local Traders Village, located in Southwest San Antonio, is featuring a new Sunflower Maze during the month of June. Previously, they have had a maze made out of a cornfield, but this was the first time they have tried using a field full of sunflowers. It will open on Saturday, June 12th, a week later than originally planned, but Mother Nature didn’t cooperate with their original schedule of June 5th. It will stay open until July 18, depending upon how the sunflowers “behave.” This video was taken on Wednesday, June 9th. We were not physically on the property at the time, but used a nearby public street as our launch point. The location was closed at the time of flight.

By the way, we have absolutely no clue how they manage such an artistic drawing and convert it to a real maze on the ground. In the video, you will see the small bulldozer used to clear the path through the field, but the sunflowers are as tall, or taller than the bulldozer, so how does the operator know which way to turn next? Amazing talent on display!

[Update: We later learned that they used a GPS controlled mower to cut the per-determined pattern in the maze.   That makes a lot of sense.  We’ve also made contact with their Marketing Director and will be doing some future drone photography and videos for them.] We have been granted permission to launch and fly from their property during the week, when they aren’t open to the public, so stay tuned for some more up close videos of this Sunflower Field Maze coming soon.]
