The 2021 Annual Kites Take Flight event was held on June 19th on Follett;s Island Beach, near Freeport and Surfside Beach, Texas,. Thousands of beach goers got to enjoy the sight of these beautiful kites being flown from the beach. Huge ones, small ones, it didn’t matter. Many of the larger ones were in the shape of various animals, from an orca whale, to a hammerhead shark, or even a flying horse, and some were just kites.
Inspirational Crossroads organized the event on Facebook. Members of area kite clubs participated, as did members of the public. Surfside Beach Flyers Club and South Houston Area Recreational Kiters (S.H.A.R.K.) made up the bulk of the clubs represented out there on this date. We’ve been to multiple kite events in the past where these two clubs have shown up together. All of these groups can be found on Facebook for further information.
