Canyon Lake was the scene of the 4th Annual Dam Fine Car Show, sponsored by the Dam Community Alliance. This year, there were two parts to the event. An actual car show up at North Park, a campground on the north side of the lake next to the Dam, and the once a year chance for the general public to actually drive their own vehicle across the dam, starting on the south end aptly named “Overlook Park.”
Entrants to the car show paid $20 per vehicle and spectators paid $5 a person for access to the show area. Drivers paid $10 for the privilege of driving across the nearly 1 mile long Dam, taking photos along the way. There was a professional photographer at the end of the Dam taking photos of every car / truck / motorcycle that paid to cross.
Proceeds from this event will go towards making physical improvements to the Dam itself. In prior years, it funded better access by handicapped person, such as in wheelchairs or walkers. It paid for some barriers along the dam to reduce the chance of such person accidentally rolling off the edge of the paved surface and getting injured by the fall.
