Experimental Drone Helicopter Project

We were contacted last month by a group who was competing in the world-wide contest called DronexChallenge2020 (dot com). They are the only remaining US based company still in, what is now the 3rd stage of the competition. They are in the top 9 companies out of the initial multiple hundreds who first entered over a year ago.

We’re going to be documenting the initial testing and flights of this UAV with our drones, from a safe distance of course. We met with their San Antonio based Board of Directors member earlier today and took some photos with permission to share them on our website. It looks like a very exciting project and we’re proud to become a part of it.

This unmanned aircraft (drone) weighs about 250# with fuel (not petroleum based) and should be able to carry up to 800# total weight. It has little or no heat signature and emits water vapor as a byproduct, so it will be environmentally friendly.

It is currently able to fly for about 90 minutes, but they have designs that could double that flight time.

In the background of the photos, is one of their current manned aircraft (not the silver car). It is their single person model, the Dragonfly, also fueled by this alternative fuel source.
