2020 News Year Eve Fireworks in San Antonio Drone Video

Happy New Year, San Antonio, Texas! This video was made from some footage taken using an Autel Evo 2 Pro drone, between 11:50pm CT and 12:10am CT. It took almost a year to make it! Haha!   The first half is 2x video speed just to include more footage in less time. The last half is normal speed for comparison purposes.

On a whim last  night on the way home from work, we detoured to a known safe high elevation parking lot, one that would be guaranteed empty that late at night.   Fireworks were popping up everywhere we looked, all across town.  So we put the Autel Evo 2 Pro drone up in the air a couple of hundred feet to record the sights.

We launched from an empty commercial parking lot, in northwest San Antonio, up on a high elevation hill and flew no more than 200ft AGL straight above that parking lot. The drone did have the required anti-collision strobe light on top and some red / green orientation / navigation LED lights on the arms. A daytime site survey wasn’t needed since I’ve been to this location 2-3 times a week for over a year on business. We really wish we had thought ahead to bring our digital recorder to record the ambient audio from all the fireworks, but alas this was a spur of the moment flight because of the uncertain weather in the area (rained all day).  At no time did any manned aircraft approach our launch area.  See video description text for more information about this video.

This flight was done  just for fun, with no commercial purposes or intent.
